Enjoy Professional Hair Care products came to our market - the Pacific Northwest - a few years ago and did almost everything wrong. They employed a private distribution network and hired rank amateurs to represent their products. They sunk tons of money into giving salons free products for retail - the opening deal was literally placed into salons at no cost. This might have worked but, with rep turnover, many salons were never able to reorder and many others kept waiting for the next giveaway and refused to reorder without it.

Enjoy Professional Hair Care is back at 'cha this year with better trained reps, more realistic intro deals and - something that got overlooked the first time around - one of the best salon product lines out there.

We got reintroduced to Enjoy through an old friend Andy Sible, the salon consultant for much of South Seattle to Olympia WA. Andy has an extensive background working with other salon product companies and managing some of the best salons in the greater Seattle-Bellevue area, including Habitude, Seven and the legendary Kaboom Salon.

We took the product to our backbar and used it at editorial events and are here to say it is one of our favorite product lines we have had the pleasure to work with and review. The texture and feel of the product on the hair is luxurious and clear. The hair felt clean and in better shape than previous to our testing. The best part is: all shampoos and conditioners are sulfate free.

The packaging is uncomplicated and each product is named according to its usage. The shampoos and conditioners can be interchanged as one sees fit, but have color-coded packaging via the half star on each bottle to make aligning them easier. The shampoos and conditioners are highly concentrated and come out of the bottle like easy-flow toothpaste. An inch or two of each is sufficient for any head of hair. At first, we pushed too much out of the bottle, but got used to using less each application. The fragrance of the products is straightforward and is aimed at a more youthful market, in our opinion.

The Luxury Shampoo and Conditioner combo is a great reliever of stressed hair and, combined with a dab of Enjoy Hair and Skin Treatment Oil tossed into Enjoy Shine and Smooth upon styling the most mangled hair, leaves the hair refreshed, elastic and soft to the touch. The combination is a great way to beat the highly humid hair of summer in our market and throughout the states. The Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner combo can be used equally well to beat frizz and dry hair of all types. Our reviewers were evenly divided between their preferences for one combo or the other but all agreed that equally excellent results could be achieved by using the two shampoos and conditioners in any alternate combination.

The big score with this salon line is the Clarifying Spray. This one of a kind spray-in clarifying formula is designed to remove mineral deposits, product build-up chlorine and/or other impurities in the hair. Used before any color service, it makes results brilliant and assures the longevity of clear sharp coloration of all hair types.

More than ever, we are using round brushes and large barrel irons to create volume curls that seem almost random and natural when brushed. Enjoy has styling products that seem engineered for the recent emphasis on open large curl looks. Their Shaping Lotion is made to order for looks that will be created and reworked with round brushes and large irons. It is fantastic with used in slightly damp hair Velcro roller set under a cool dryer.

Shine and Smooth is a great cutting spray and can be combined with any other product, such as the Volumizing Mousse, to create lasting looks in hard to style medium to fine textured hair. It is the number one used product in our review because of its versatility.

Our reviewers are rarely impressed with pomades and brilliantine unless they are pliant, dry and smooth to the touch. They all raved about Enjoy Creamy Pomade and most used it as a final finishing product to separate, define and retool their looks. It is a product that immediately went into their show bags. I personally combined a slight touch of Dry Wax to the palm of my hand and slipped a bit of creamy Pomade to my fingertips. Combining the two with the other hand's fingertips gave me total control over the results. This created a finishing palate for me to tug and torque my looks to perfection.

The reviewers were both clients and professionals with the professionals ranging from salon stylists to editorial and show stylists. All were pleasantly surprised by the quality and effectiveness of Enjoy Professional Hair Care Products. Many had no prior knowledge of this line of salon products or only knew aboput its missteps in our market. All left with a new respect for this line and many said they would recommend this line to their salons. In my opinion, Andy Sible was right: Enjoy has a hit with this line. They need to define their image and promote their mission through laser-like salon education and they are in the process of doing just that. Cudos,cats.
