Guy Mascolo Hairdresser who built Toni & Guy empire passes away.

Guy Mascolo founded Toni & Guy with his brother Toni Mascolo in London in 1963, forming a company that would expand from a few salons in the 1970s and early 1980s to hundreds of salons across the nation.

The company also launched its own hair care product line - TIGI. Guy and another brother, Bruno Mascolo, moved to the Dallas area in 1983 as a base for their U.S. operations.

Guy Mascolo was chairman of the U.S.TIGI that has 56 salons and 11 cosmetology schools.

Capelli d'Oro mourns the passing of this giant influence in progressive hair arts and in salon operations. He was instrumental in bringing James Morrison and Toni to Seattle, Washington in the early 1980s when the product company was a small regional London company that wished to enter the US market.

We followed the editorial work of the Toni and Guy crew in magazines such as Oro and Passion and were impressed with their vision. This author hosted a cutting seminar at his salon, Farouche in Bellevue with Toni and James.

The event was sponsored by Ed Wyse with the assistance of Ron Wyse: possibly the first west coast appearance by these two artists.

A friendship between TIGI and Seattle artists grew from that initial meeting. This author noted, at the time, that Guy was the one who had the vision of TIGI as a worldwide presence and the skills to make this dream a reality.

Every meeting with Guy in the following years was inspirational for this author and those who associated themselves with the Toni and Guy vision.

Guy will be missed and remembered as a mentor in this, our most beautiful business.
